Golfers sought for Royal Canadian Legion tourney

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 258, in Highland Creek, is inviting golfers to join in its first annual fundraising golf tournament on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The event will be held at Bushwood Golf Club, 10905 Reesor Rd., in Markham, with a four-person scramble format and a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Register by Sept. 8. Entry fee is $125 and includes a golf cart, barbecue lunch before tee-off and a roast beef dinner and prizes at the legion afterwards.

Proceeds go to Branch 258.

Sharks host September exhibition series

The Scarborough Sharks atom team is hosting an exhibition series over two weekends this month.

The tournament is being played the weekends of Sept. 13-14 and Sept. 20-21 and features eight games per team. The action takes place at Art Thompson Arena in Pickering.

Head coach Chuck East, who is organizing the event, said there will be some fast and furious female hockey action.

Participating teams include Kanata, Whitby, Barrie, Mississauga, Oshawa, Clarington and Kitchener.

Register now for Rexdale Open

A group of old friends who met at St. Benedict's Catholic School are holding the fourth annual Rexdale Open, Sept. 20. The tournament starts at noon at the Kleinburg golf course.

The cost for registration is $125, which includes rental of a golf cart and dinner. There will be prizes awarded after a raffle. Proceeds from the event go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's Ontario chapter. Call Joe at 416-762-1880 to register.
