The Winners Walk of Hope for Ovarian Cancer takes place at the Sunnybrook Sports Pavilion on Sunday, Sept. 7. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk takes stride at 10 a.m. The park is located at Lawrence Avenue East and Leslie Street.
As part of Ovarian Cancer Month, this walk is one of 14 taking place in cities across the country.
Referred to as the "disease that whispers," ovarian cancer has symptoms so subtle that they are often mistaken for less serious conditions. The symptoms consist of swelling or bloating of the abdomen, abdominal pain, difficulty eating along with feeling full quickly and frequent or urgent urination.
While the average woman's likelihood of getting ovarian cancer is one in 70, there is no reliable screening test for the disease. Women are encouraged to visit their doctor if the symptoms persist.
For more information on the walk and how to get involved, call 416-564-8550 or visit www.winnerswalkofhope.ca.
